Rabbi Yonatan Magazzinich was born in Montreal Quebec “La Belle Province” to Sephardic Moroccan parents. He is the first of four children Bli Ayin Hara. He grew up in Toronto in a predominantly Sephardic Moroccan community.
Upon graduating Ner Yisrael Yeshiva High School in Toronto, he decided to spend a year learning in Yeshivat Merkaz Hatorah in Yerusahlayim. After spending close to three years there, he then went on to continue his studies in the Mir Yeshiva.
While still in the Mir, he got married to Julie nee Mergi, originally from North Miami Beach. He would return to the Mir to learn and eventually was accepted to the Yechaveh Daat Kollel. Upon completing his studies, he was conferred semicha by Chacham Daveed Yosef and his father, Chacham Ovadia Yosef.
Rabbi Yonatan Magazzinich was part of the original staff of the Eshel Sephardic Seminary in Yerushalayim. The only Sephardic seminary for post-secondary school Sephardic English speaking women. In 2012 he returned to Toronto and founded The GoSephardic chapter there. Gosephardic is an outreach organization for young adults and young professionals. He spearheaded classes, events shabbatons, and trips to Israel. Eventually, he would move to head up the GoSephardic chapter in New York together with his wife.
Rabbi Yonatan Magazzinich is an energetic and dynamic speaker. He currently lives with his wife and three kids in Far Rockaway.
