Welcome to the West Side Sephardic Synagogue.
Our community is a vibrant, diverse, and energetic mix of Jews from all over the world, representing no fewer than 7 languages (Hebrew, English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, & German) and no less than 13 countries of origin (Israel, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, France, Spain, Italy, America, Syria, Libya, Canada, Russia, Argentina). All of our services are Orthodox and in the Sepharadic tradition, and our Synagogue is open to Jews of all religious and ethnic backgrounds. All official speeches, sermons, and announcements are made in English, and whatever your own native language, chances are we can find you a translator among our ranks.
Our Synagogue is located on 120 West 76th Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam. Prayers and classes take place on the 1st floor (Beit Midrash) of the West Side Institutional Synagogue.

About the Congregation
Originating in 1990, the West Side Sephardic Synagogue (WSSS) WAS established for the purpose of maintaining and conducting a Sephardic synagogue in the Upper West Side, with respect to the Maghrebi traditions and prayers. Over the last two decades, the WSSS has morphed into a full-service location not only offering regular services (Shabbat, holidays…) but also various classes, events and programs for youths & adults.
The West Side Sephardic Synagogue affirms its dedication to the following principles:
- Instilling a true and devoted reverence for orthodox Judaism
- Fostering Jewish knowledge and learning
- Promoting the welfare of the members of the congregation
- Assisting the Jewish community of the UWS in every way possible
- Participating in activities which benefit the Jewish people as a whole
- Conducting its services and functions in a manner designed to inspire love and respect for the Maghrebi Jewish tradition
These aims shall not be changed as they form the basis on which the WSSS was founded and will continue to exist.
